The Canteiro Experimental is an educational space in the Department of Architecture and Urbanism of PUC-Rio for the exclusive use of its students and intended for the experimentation and execution of academic projects.
Our space is equipped with laser cutter machine, CNCrouter, digital fabrication and experimental jwoodshop.

LASER CUT | Procedures

In order to use the laser cutting machine it is necessary to deliver the work on the pendrive in person and go through the sorting. Then the job will go into a waiting list.
Before taking your file, check the waiting list. The minimum production time is 2 to 3 business days. If you think you will not make time, you better not risk it!

Note:

All leftover material will be destined to the shelf for reuse. If you have brought your own material, take all unused stuff along with your work.
It is the student's responsibility for storing the work. The Canteiro Experimental does not provide containers, bags or boxes, nor space to store models or prototypes.

The student's work already on the waiting list can not be modified or replaced. In that case a new procedure must be done and re-enter on the bottom of the queue.


CNC ROUTER | General Information

Router, refers to the well-known tools, which are used to carry out works in woods with specific tools.
CNC, Computer Numeric Control, is a list of numeric codes that allows simultaneous control of the router's axes.
Basically, the CNC Router is a machine controlled by a computer, used mainly to create works with woods, plastics, non-ferrous metals, foams, among others.

It is imperative that the students have the knowledge on softwares such as: Rhinoceros, 3dmax, Solidwoks, etc. for 3D file production and advanced AutoCad knowledge for laser cutter 2D files.

The student must bring the file to be evaluated and also discuss routine procedures for the use of the cutter before beginning the workpiece. The job will only start after evaluation.

Keep in mind that CNCRouter machining is a complex and time-consuming process that does not allow errors, so the file should be done carefully.
